In the early 70s, there were no quality restaurants in Mombasa, Kenyan-born Chris Seex who was managing a resort Hotel at the time was determined to correct this. His dream was to create Africa's finest seafood restaurant. With a little financial and moral support, he designed the Mombasa Tamarind - built with high arches and a crenelated roof, the elegant white building is a throwback to a bygone Arab era with the perfect setting - a starlit terrace perched atop a cliff overlooking the picturesque Mombasa's old harbor.
The menu is a creative blend of the best of French, Asian, and African cuisines. The specialty is seafood and only the finest ingredients are used. The prawns piri piri, chili crab, and lobster have earned the restaurant worldwide acclaim and rave reviews from international publications such as Gourmet, The London Times, and The Herald Tribune. Tamarind Mombasa can cater to large groups, corporate dinners, and cocktail parties. We will tailor a menu to suit your tastes. Attached to the restaurant is the private dining room which can seat up to 25 guests for meetings, dinner, and company celebrations. The lawn outside overlooking the old town is ideal for cocktail receptions.
